There are several considerations to discuss when ordering your cake. It is helpful if you have the following information handy when you contact us:
- Your budget
- Date of event
- Time and location (indoor or outdoor event)
- Theme/occasion (Baby shower, wedding, birthday, etc.)
- Number of people the cake needs to feed
- Your initial thoughts and ideas about your cake’s design
How far in advance should I order a cake?
We will do our best to accommodate your order, but specialty cakes are labour-intensive.
Because each cake requires a great deal of attention and several hours to be completed, we can only accept a limited number of cake orders each week. So the sooner you call, the better the chances of your date being available.
How much cake do I need to order?
That depends on what else you are serving at your event. If you are serving your cake as dessert, then you will need to ensure that you have at least one slice available for each person on your guest list.
If you are having a dessert table, then you can reduce the amount of cake to 60%-80% of your guest list.
Do you offer consultations and tastings?
Yes. Consultations for birthday cakes can easily be done over the phone. For wedding cakes we suggest scheduling an appointment to determine the design, flavours and details.
During the consultation, you will be able to browse pictures and magazines to help you define your style. If you have specific ideas for your wedding cake, bring those with you.
(It can even be helpful to narrow down options by looking at cake designs you dislike.)
The wedding invitation, embroidery from your gown, pictures of cakes that you like, and examples of the theme/wedding décor you are planning can all be used to help in creating your cake design.
Tasting appointments are offered for wedding cakes only, and a non-refundable $75 deposit is required. If you place an order within 30 days of your tasting appointment, the deposit will be deducted from the final price of your cake.
Is it possible to have more than one flavour in the same cake?
Having more than one cake flavour is generally not a good idea, as once your guests realize there is more than one flavour, they may want to try them all. If you did not plan enough cake for these seconds, you may end up serving fewer people.
Practically speaking, you can have one flavour of cake with up to two flavour fillings for each tier of your cake.
My mother wants to bake the cake, would you decorate it?
We only decorate cakes that we make, however if you’d like to serve a cake baked by a relative or a friend, we can decorate a dummy cake for display. We can also create a custom cake topper for you.
